Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image?

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image, select the output format and quality, and click Compress image. Compare the result size and preview before downloading.

Does compression reduce image quality?

JPG and WebP use lossy compression at the selected quality. Lower settings usually save more space but can lose detail. Dimensions stay the same. PNG uses lossless encoding with no quality slider, and re-encoding may not reduce its size.

Can I compress a PNG with transparency?

Yes. Choose WebP to keep transparency while adjusting quality, or PNG for lossless encoding. JPG replaces transparent areas with white. Animated images become a still image.

Are my images uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser. There is no account, watermark, or server upload. Download your result before leaving or refreshing the page.

Why is the compressed file sometimes larger?

An image may already be efficiently compressed. Changing format or re-encoding can increase its size. Try WebP or lower quality, or download your original instead. A smaller file size is not guaranteed.

What are the file limits?

Upload one image at a time, up to 20 MB, 8,192 pixels on either side, and 16 million pixels total. Resize larger images with our Image Resizer first.
